Rapid Fire Q&A with Sonia
Why did you choose to be a recruiter?
I thought I would enjoy helping people find jobs.
What is your favorite part about working at WFQ Inc.?
The team. We have worked together to build a great business and processes to benefit our candidates and clients.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I love to spend time with my son – especially going fishing!
What languages do you speak?
Spanish, English and some Arabic.
How do you help candidates whose first language is not English?
I try to determine which language is best for the candidate to communicate. Then I use that to get them employed and assigned a job that is the best fit.
How does you help candidates after they have been hired?
We follow up with candidates as soon as they start work to make sure it is a good fit for them and the employer. If it isn’t a fit, we can determine if we need to transfer them to another position or location as soon as possible.
Sonia’s Advice to Job Seekers
Have direct eye contact
Good candidates will typically have good eye contact – it makes them seem more confident!
Think about what location will be best for you
When you are going through the application process, be honest with yourself and your recruiter. If you don’t have a reliable car and will show up late because of it, maybe it makes sense to choose a location closer to where you live (even if the pay is a little less than a job further away). In the long run, you will benefit from it.
Show your interest in getting the job
Recruiters can tell If you aren’t interested in the job from body language or a conversation. Come into the conversation with enthusiasm and read our blog post about the best ways to make a good first impression.
Process to Work with Sonia
Sonia goes onsite to Auburn Hills on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays to one of WFQ’s largest plastic manufacturing plants.
On Mondays she meets with potential candidates that have responded to postings her postings on social media or our job board. Candidates fill out an application, which also includes vetting and on-boarding processes such as background checks and a drug test. Then they sign up to return on Wednesday.
On Wednesdays the potential candidates watch a 20-minute video, followed by a full tour of the facility buildings.
On Fridays, Sonia determines if the candidate is going to become hired and is qualified. If so, once they are hired, they get paid for the time they took to view the video for one hour’s worth of pay.
Sonia is the main connection for this process and beyond with this company.
