Many businesses find their HR departments are overworked and with limited time to properly onboard and train their candidates. A recruiting company (which can also be called a staffing or employment agency) can help businesses find qualified workers and help with the onboarding process.

Read more on the benefits of using a staffing agency.

But what does a recruiting company do for all potential candidates? And how can that benefit both the business and employee?

Every recruiting company has a slightly different approach, but here at WFQ Inc., we have a process to ensure every candidate is qualified, reliable, confident and to start work. Here is what we do for every candidate:

Screen Candidates for Qualifications

Every candidate must apply and interview with a recruiter. The recruiter will ensure that candidate is the right fit for the role including screening for skills, experience, education and work-ethic.

Conduct National Background Checks and Drug Tests

Every candidate must pass a national background check and drug test in order to be hired. This eliminates the cost and hassle for businesses to have to conduct the tests themselves.

Hold Orientation and Training Sessions Tailored to Each Customer

Every business has different needs for their new hires, so we tailor our training specifically to the policies and regulations of the individual customer. Training sessions are created to optimize efficiency and maximize safety, so WFQ Inc. placements are trained in proper techniques of their job function, regardless of experience.

WFQ Inc. also provides math and logic testing, plus any specialized testing needed for specific functions. Some examples of this are reading multimeters, calipers, and gages identifying product deficiencies, and conflict resolution tests.

Provide Continued Support for Employees

Our recruiters put the effort in to build communication and relationships with our candidates, and that doesn’t stop once they start work. Our recruiters are there as a resource to the employees if they need anything – whether they have questions or need help with resolving an issue.

For more information on our staffing services, contact our staffing specialists at (734) 548-8313.
The post What Will a Recruiting Company do for Potential Employees? first appeared on WFQ Inc.

Many of the positions we recruit for at WFQ Inc. fall under general labor, including manufacturing line workers, hotel housekeeping personnel, catering staff, landscaping workers, packaging/warehouse personnel, janitorial positions and more. For many of these positions, you don’t need prior experience or training – WFQ will train you and then you learn on the job – but that doesn’t mean there isn’t a lot to learn from these jobs.

Here’s four skills you’ll learn in a general labor position that can be applied to almost any job out there.

1. Ability to Learn and Adapt

From the moment a general laborer starts training, they are constantly learning the best way to do the job. On the job, workers will learn from their supervisors, co-workers and themselves – often from seeing what works and what doesn’t.

2. Communication

Asking questions, expressing concerns, and communicating ideas are key skills to have in any job. And if English isn’t your first language, work with your supervisor and team to determine the most effective way to communicate.

3. Teamwork

Many jobs require teamwork to make things more efficient – as the saying goes, two brains are better than one. Not only can teamwork increase productivity, but good teamwork also creates a better work environment. If a worker is a team player and learns how to recognize what the team needs, they will be good candidate for any job.

4. Timeliness and Punctuality

Being reliable and coming in on time to work daily can be one of the most important things a worker can do to ensure the company stays on track. Timeliness in terms of reaching deadlines is also an essential skill to remain on schedule. This is true of almost any job, and if a worker can show examples of their punctuality, employers will appreciate that dedication.

Whether you are considering getting a general labor job or are looking to advance in your career, keep these skills in mind to showcase to any employer.

WFQ Inc. recruiters work hard to connect a company with the perfect candidate for the position. In this blog series, get to know the WFQ recruiters and hear their advice for job seekers.

Meet Sonia Alba, WFQ Inc. Recruiter

Sonia Alba has been a recruiter at WFQ Inc. for around nine months. With over three years of experience as a recruiter, she works fast and one-on-one with candidates to make sure they end up in the right position.

Rapid Fire Q&A with Sonia

Why did you choose to be a recruiter?

I thought I would enjoy helping people find jobs.

What is your favorite part about working at WFQ Inc.?

The team. We have worked together to build a great business and processes to benefit our candidates and clients.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

I love to spend time with my son – especially going fishing!

What languages do you speak?

Spanish, English and some Arabic.

How do you help candidates whose first language is not English?

I try to determine which language is best for the candidate to communicate. Then I use that to get them employed and assigned a job that is the best fit.

How does you help candidates after they have been hired?

We follow up with candidates as soon as they start work to make sure it is a good fit for them and the employer. If it isn’t a fit, we can determine if we need to transfer them to another position or location as soon as possible.

Sonia’s Advice to Job Seekers

Have direct eye contact

Good candidates will typically have good eye contact – it makes them seem more confident!

Think about what location will be best for you

When you are going through the application process, be honest with yourself and your recruiter. If you don’t have a reliable car and will show up late because of it, maybe it makes sense to choose a location closer to where you live (even if the pay is a little less than a job further away). In the long run, you will benefit from it.

Show your interest in getting the job

Recruiters can tell If you aren’t interested in the job from body language or a conversation. Come into the conversation with enthusiasm and read our blog post about the best ways to make a good first impression.

Process to Work with Sonia

Sonia goes onsite to Auburn Hills on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays to one of WFQ’s largest plastic manufacturing plants.

On Mondays she meets with potential candidates that have responded to postings her postings on social media or our job board. Candidates fill out an application, which also includes vetting and on-boarding processes such as background checks and a drug test. Then they sign up to return on Wednesday.

On Wednesdays the potential candidates watch a 20-minute video, followed by a full tour of the facility buildings.

On Fridays, Sonia determines if the candidate is going to become hired and is qualified. If so, once they are hired, they get paid for the time they took to view the video for one hour’s worth of pay.

Sonia is the main connection for this process and beyond with this company.

If you are interested in applying for an opportunity at WFQ, you can check our postings on www.wfqinc.com/job-board, social media platforms, job fairs, or stop in our office at 5751 S Sheldon Rd, Canton, MI, 48188.
The post WFQ Inc.

When preparing to talk with a recruiter, you can take steps to impress them from the moment you walk into the office. A good first impression can be the first step to show a recruiter that you will be a reliable and presentable employee.

If you are coming in for a scheduled interview or stopping in to apply for a job at WFQ, here are 7 things that our recruiters have noted leave a good impression.

1. Dress Presentably

When you come to the interview dressed clean and presentable, it positively reassures the recruiter that you are professional, reliable and interested in the position.

If you are dressed sloppy, you may risk give off the impression that you don’t care. However, if you dress the part (appropriate to the position you are applying for), you are showing that you take your job seriously.

2. Arrive on Time

If you arrive on time (or even a few minutes early), you are already showing that you can be a reliable worker. You don’t want to give off the wrong impression – if you don’t show up to the interview on time, the recruiter may have doubts for whether or not you will show up to work on time daily.

To avoid any mishaps, map out how long it will take you to get to the recruiter’s offices the night before. Double check your interview time, get a good night’s sleep, and set alarms for getting ready/leaving. If something unexpected happens, be sure to call the recruiter as soon as you can.

If you don’t have an interviewed scheduled and are stopping by for job fair or to drop off an application, make sure to double check what hours the recruiter’s office is open.

3. Bring Everything You Need

Make sure you have checked everything before heading out for your interview. Did the recruiter ask you to bring anything? Do you have extra copies of your resume?

Once you’ve ensured you have everything you need, keep your documents organized and presentable. Grabbing out a balled-up resume from the bottom of your bag can leave the recruiter wondering if you are organized.

4. Be Kind and Confident

Be kind from the moment you walk through the door to the end of the interview. People will notice when you treat everyone well and extend the first handshake.

5. Show Your Interest

The recruiter wants to see your interest before they hire you. Indicate your interest throughout the interview and show enthusiasm when you are talking.

One good way to show your interest is by asking questions (plus questions help you determine if the job is a good fit for you). Prepare a list of questions to ask about the organization, your role and the next steps.

You can also send a follow-up email after the interview to thank the recruiter for their time and reiterate your interest.

6. Minimize Anything that May Be Distracting

Try to keep activities that may distract you or your recruiter to a minimum.

Go over a mental checklist with yourself – Is your phone turned off or to silent? Can you spit out your gum? Are you constantly checking the clock?

7. Come Prepared to Talk about Yourself

Your recruiter wants to find out what type of person and worker you are to see if you would be the right fit. Come prepared to talk about previous experiences, your work ethic and goals.

Don’t have any previous work experience? No worries! There are many positions where you don’t need prior work experience. Check out our blog post with tips for those who are looking to get their first job.

Why is Making A Good Impression Important?

With a good attitude and a little preparation, making a good impression may help you get closer to landing your next job. Although these tips won’t guarantee a job offer, it will help you appear more confident and professional for your next interview.

Having a hard time finding a job because you have no previous work experience? We understand that many people struggle with this dilemma – in order to get a job many places require previous job experience.

However, at WFQ Inc., we hire many candidates out of high school or with no relevant experience. If you haven’t had a job in the past or are looking to shift fields, that’s ok! We are looking for people who demonstrate they are driven, have goals, and are excited to start working. Whether you are looking for a temporary summer job or your first full time job, our employment agency places people into general labor and skilled trade positions within Metro-Detroit, Michigan.

Now, you may be asking yourself, “But how do I show that on my resume when I’m applying?” Here are three tips to help you go from staring at a blank page to creating a resume that shows you are driven – with no previous work experience required.

1. Describe your goals.

Include a section introducing yourself. If you don’t have a ton of experience, consider including a summary or goals section and answering a few of these questions:

Why are you interested in this job?

What do you hope to accomplish in this role?

What qualities do you have that would be a good fit for this job?

What skills are you interested in developing in this role?

2. Highlight your education and relevant skills.

List out your school and any relevant classes or projects. You can even what you are interested in studying. If there are any specific examples (for example taking the lead in a project) that show how you possess any of the requirements in the job, you can include it!

When you read over the job description, pay attention to what the employer is looking for. For example, are they looking for someone who can solve problems? Perform specific tasks? A team player?

Now that you understand what skills the job is looking for, figure out which of those skills you possess. You can list them out in a separate skills section. Plus consider adding it into your descriptions within your resume sections. For example, if the job is looking for someone who can work on a team, you could put a bullet point in your education section giving an example about how you worked well within a team project.

3. List activities & achievements.

Showcase how your activities and achievements can apply to the position. Write out a list of any and all organizations you have, then think of how you can make it relevant to the role

For example, if you are on a sports team, add a bullet about teamwork. If you have volunteer experience, explain what you did and learned. If you were the lead in your school’s musical, point out your leadership skills. Your previous involvement can show a lot about your character and work ethic – even if you haven’t had a job.

I’ve created my resume following these tips. Now what should I do?

Now, it’s time to put your resume to use and apply, apply, apply!

If you are over 18 and are interested in getting your first job or re-entering the workforce, stop in our office Monday – Friday from 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM at 5751 S Sheldon Road, Canton, MI 48188 or apply online on our job board.
THE IMPORTANCE OF WAREHOUSING TO YOUR BUSINESS

Warehousing has been around for years, and it has helped businesses with different storage needs. Today, a warehouse is not simply a storage facility. Some companies offer additional services to optimize your entire supply chain system. This helps to create time utility as goods are only released when they are needed.

So, if you want to monitor and track your raw materials, finished goods, and other storage needs, then you need to rent a warehouse space.

But what exactly is the importance of using such services? Keep on reading to find out!

GET A CENTRAL STORAGE LOCATION

A centralized location for all your storage needs help to reduce the production gap. This means you can receive, store, distribute, and ship products with much ease to save time and cost.

For example, a warehouse near a loading dock is ideal for receiving and storing goods from suppliers. For another company, a warehouse in the middle of the city can help them distribute and mail items to their customers easily.

Ideally, when choosing a warehouse, you want to look at a location that will make the most sense for your operations. This can be a location that can be easily accessed by your suppliers or one that’s in your target market.

IMPROVED ORDER PROCESSING

When customers place their orders, all they’re concerned with is the delivery of their products. They want timely delivery and quality services. Any potential fulfillment issue is not their concern; it’s yours.

Warehousing offers you “security stocking.” Ideally, this means that your products are available for shipping whenever customers place their orders. You don’t need to fulfill orders from your production facility.

You can have enough stock for the next few months, and this reduces delays in delivery. The last thing you want is to lose your long-term client or a sale because you couldn’t fulfill an order.

OFFERS ADDITIONAL STORAGE

You can have a storage space your production facility, but your stock volume can outgrow it during your busy months. In this case, getting a warehouse space will make the most sense. You want your goods to be safe from damage and theft.

Basically, a warehouse is great for storing surplus goods, which customers and clients don’t need immediately.

Most companies usually produce goods in anticipation of demand. This means they’ll need adequate storage for their surplus goods until their customers and clients start putting in orders. A warehouse makes an ideal option to meet your needs.

IMPROVED PRODUCTION QUALITY

It’s easy to assume that warehousing inventory control systems only monitor quantities.

With better storage management, it’s possible to monitor your production quality, too. You can use it to track your raw materials and finished goods. These numbers can help to determine the number of materials that go through your production process.

As such, when you detect defects or quality problems in the production process, it’s easier to isolate defective materials or finished goods.

An effective warehouse tracking system also allows you to work with your vendors and suppliers to identify and minimize defective raw materials. This helps you save time as you won’t need to carry out control at your facility.

Inventory quality control systems help to monitor the shelf life and expiration dates of your materials. Workers can easily identify and remove stocks before they expire.

IMPROVED PURCHASING DECISIONS

How do you determine the right time to replenish your stock and raw materials?

A warehouse with an effective inventory management system can help in all purchasing decisions. It can offer you accurate data, which you can use to determine when to purchase raw materials and stock.

You can easily identify fast-moving and slow-moving products depending on your order history. It’s also easier to identify seasonal products. The data helps you to avoid purchasing an excessive or inadequate amount of certain materials.

Some inventory systems have signals that alert you to products that need replenishing. This allows you to keep your stock always in check.

LEVERAGE SEASONAL GROWTH

Holiday and shopping seasons, such as Christmas and Black Friday, are famous for their high sales numbers.

As a small business, you don’t need to have Amazon-like facilities to hit your sales targets. A warehouse space will just suffice.

In this case, you have scale your operations when the shopping seasons come. You can monitor consumer trends and stock up on inventories for peak seasons. This won’t lead to a significant increase in costs.

Basically, a warehouse gives you the ability to boost your operations as needed without any cost burden. You can take advantage of new opportunities and sales cycles in the market.

RISK MANAGEMENT

As a business owner, the last thing you want is to experience violent fluctuations in prices. This usually happens when the supply of a particular product exceeds the market demand. If you decide to sell, you can easily suffer loses.

Instead, you can use a warehouse to store your products. When the demand becomes more than the immediate supply and productions, you can then release them to the market.

A warehouse also provides safe custody of perishable goods. You can utilize cold storage and refrigeration to avoid product spoilage. Of course, you can expect this storage service to cost more than regular storage.

Also, businesses can minimize the loss from fire, theft, and damage by using a warehouse to store their goods. Plus, your goods are insured, so you can expect full compensation in case of any damage or loss.

WAREHOUSING – FINAL THOUGHTS

As a business owner, you have different options, including private, public, and bonded warehouses. Whatever your option, leveraging warehousing services can help to streamline your supply chain.

At Harrisburg Logistics (dbs Advanced Install), we offer different services, including warehouse facilities, where you can store your goods and fulfill your orders. Our facilities are located in South Florida and other locations around the world. We’re open 24/7/365 to ensure the best services as possible.

Resident Liaison Officers, or RLOs, are vital in keeping residents happy. It’s easy to forget that every project comes down to the people involved, and a successful RLO will inform, solve problems, and maintain the peace.

But what are the key features necessary for professional, expert RLO?

Communication

The job of an RLO means you’ll have to keep residents informed of any projects or work that could affect their day-to-day life.

It’s important to properly convey this information in a personable, understandable way. There’s nothing worse than being spoken to like a statistic; keep things friendly and easy to understand.

Organisation

Your time will be spread across many duties: as well as communicating with residents, RLOs will often need to compile weekly reports of complaints and meetings.

By being organised, you can ensure that the workload remains consistent and to a high standard.

Empathy

Everybody should be treated equally, and this means considering all complaints on an equal footing.

A large part of an RLO’s role is to register complaints and seek solutions as quickly and efficiently as possible. This means taking the time to understand the individual grievances that residents may have.

Problem Solving

Very few issues will have a quick-fix solution, so it’s crucial to be able to approach problems methodically.

Ultimately, customer service is the key responsibility that defines a Resident Liaison Officer’s position. By offering support and seeking results, you’ll perform at your very best.
The post WHAT MAKES A GREAT RESIDENT LIAISON OFFICER? first appeared on WFQ Inc.

When you’re looking for logistics services such as warehousing, one word that you might see pop up regularly is “rework.” In short, rework is a value-added service provided by many third-party logistics providers (3PLs). It’s also an umbrella term that encompasses a wide variety of distinct services. In this article, we’ll take a look at some of those services and examine what product rework companies can do for your business.

What is rework?

Rework most commonly refers to the reconfiguration of products to make them suitable for delivery to your end customers (e.g., retailers). For example, let’s say your product is manufactured and packaged in China, and is shipped to you in the U.S. for distribution here. Unfortunately, however, there is an issue with the product in its current configuration and your customers won’t accept delivery as-is.

When this occurs, you have only a few options. You can ship the products back to China to be reconfigured and then shipped back to the U.S. again – while incurring substantial costs of both time and money in the process. Or, you can entrust the reconfiguration of your product to one of many product rework companies in the U.S. These companies can then perform the necessary product or package updates in the U.S., and work with you and/or your end customers to ensure compliance with all requirements.

Problems that rework companies can solve

A product component needs to be replaced. If your product has a part that needs to be replaced, your product rework company can handle that replacement – along with the resealing and relabeling (if necessary) involved. You would simply provide your 3PL with the replacement part(s) and directions as to how to proceed. The 3PL will then perform the necessary upgrades and prepare the products for distribution.

A product instruction manual needs to be replaced. In addition to parts, it is also common for instruction manuals to need to be replaced. A 3PL that provides rework services can print new manuals (either in-house or outsourced), replace the old manuals with the new ones within the product packaging, and reseal and/or relabel for distribution.

Product labeling is inaccurate. Sometimes, the contents of your product packaging will be fine but the labels on the outside of the packages will need to be replaced. This can happen if an item number changes, if labels were mistakenly placed on the wrong side of the box, or if the existing label barcodes will not scan for some reason. Your 3PL can print and affix new labels or affix new labels that you provide. It can also provide ‘blocker labels’ to cover up the old labels if necessary.

You want to sell products in a new configuration. If a product isn’t selling, a common response is to remarket the item in a new configuration to boost sales. Examples of this include combining two low-selling items into one discounted package or removing an item from one configuration and placing it in another – or selling it on its own. To get this new configuration out to market, you can work out the new packaging details with your 3PL and provide the company with the new SKU that the reconfigured product will use. Your 3PL will then handle the packaging and labeling from there.

This solution also applies when there is a problem with only some of the items in a product configuration. For example, let’s say that you’re selling 6-packs of widgets. However, you realize that 2 of those 6 items are flawed. You can work with your product rework partner to reconfigure those 6-packs into 4-packs for re-entry into the marketplace.

An item is missing from your packaging. Have you ever assembled a piece of furniture only to find that there aren’t enough nuts, bolts, and screws to match the instruction manual? When items are mistakenly left out of packages during production, you can simply provide those items to your 3PL for insertion into product packaging – and save amateur furniture builders from headaches in the process.

A product and/or box is damaged. If your product or your product’s packaging is damaged during shipment (e.g., boxes are wet or ripped), your 3PL can repackage your products, apply new labeling and get them back out for distribution.

When the Great Recession struck, many companies switched from hiring full-time, traditional workers to a business model where they hire a mix of W2s and flexible workers, such as temps and freelancers.

That’s happening again, with many companies facing uncertainty and hesitant to add permanent jobs to payroll. Recent research by Gartner found that 32% of organizations are replacing full-time employees with contingent workers to keep costs in check. Employers are also increasingly considering introducing other models, like talent sharing and 80% pay for 80% work.

“While these situations are completely different, we did see that as the recovery took hold, the engagement of external workers increased,” says Arun Srinivasan, general manager of SAP Fieldglass, a provider of vendor management solutions. “We expect the same coming out of this.”

That has presented an opportunity for the self-employed: High-end temp work. Since the pandemic started, SAP Fieldglass has noticed that about 70% of temporary positions are not getting filled. Companies that want to hire “external talent” can’t find the right people.

Although many workers would prefer full-time, traditional jobs—and temp work in some industries has been associated with a history of exploitative working conditions—there are also many well-paying part-time temporary positions available to skilled professionals.

“We are in the midst of a transition here,” says Srinivasan. “We do see more opportunities for workers who choose to engage in that model.”

So how can independent professionals who are looking for freelance work make the most of the trend?

Determine what type of work is right for you. Companies in some industries that have seen heightened demand in the pandemic are hiring for permanent, full-time jobs. Others are leaning more toward “off-balance-sheet” talent, because they are facing economic uncertainty in their industry. That means that even with unemployment higher than it has been for a while, there are still options across the spectrum of work arrangements, especially if you have sought-after skills and experience.

The trend toward bringing on more temporary workers could put many self-employed professionals in demand and bring them new employment opportunities.

“This is an uncertain time,” says Srinivasan. “This is uncharted territory for organizations and workers. We’re seeing newer kinds of work and work arrangements.”

Focusing your search for work on the type of employment you really want can help you achieve better results. “From a worker’s perspective, many have a choice,” says Srinivasan. “Seeking engagement as a payroll employee is a choice they have. At the same time, there are more and more opportunities open for them to seek work through other sources. Whether they are through service companies, staffing companies or talent clouds, they will have more opportunities to do so.”

Consider a hybrid approach. Some independent workers like to combine a mix of freelance projects and temp work to ensure a steadier income. The thinking is “You can’t be too diversified in an unpredictable economy.” One benefit of temp work is that you typically get a paycheck every week for as long as a project continues. Some temp positions come with benefits, such as access to a 401(k).

An option that’s picking up steam right now is the contract-to-hire, where workers are hired on a temporary basis for a one-year contract, after which they will be considered a permanent employee. “We have definitely seen that trend in the technology consulting sector,” says Srinivasan.

Of course, with any flexible model like this, there is the potential for workers to be exploited. If you find that a company has brought on a lot of contract-to-hire workers in the past but ends everyone’s projects just before the one-year mark, then it probably isn’t a place where you can count on a future full-time job—and may not have a worker-friendly environment.

Try a temp agency. This isn’t the usual way that independent workers look for projects, but it’s worth considering, given the uptick in demand for temps. The External Talent Marketplace has partnered with agencies including Adecco, Experis (part of ManpowerGroup); Guidant Global and its staffing affiliates S.Com, Corestaff and SRG; KellyOCG and Randstad US. Registering with some of them will enable you to tap into opportunities with employers seeking temps with your skill set, including jobs posted on the External Talent Marketplace.

Will the temp trend continue? Very likely. Many companies are being very cautious about hiring right now but that doesn’t mean they don’t need contributions from top talent. “There is a gap in supply,” says Srinivasan.

And that means independent professionals with the right skills are going to find themselves with plenty of projects. “Some employers are trying every possible way to find workers,” says Srinivasan.
The post The Next Big Opportunity For The Self-Employed: High-End Temp Work first appeared on WFQ Inc.
